Men's Retreat
March 27-28, 2026
Speaker & Theme
Speaker: Our speaker this weekend is Albert Burnham. Albert served as a counselor and Adventure Camp staff member at New Life from 2003–2007 while completing degrees in Parks and Recreation Management and Philosophy at Frostburg State University. During that time, he also spent a year studying at the Wisconsin Wilderness Campus of Philadelphia Biblical University.
For nearly sixteen years, Albert has lived in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Alaska—home of Deadliest Catch and often called the “birthplace of the wind.”
He is currently in his tenth year serving as a bivocational pastor at Unalaska Reformed Church, a small Southern Baptist–affiliated congregation started by several families with a desire to see a healthy, gospel-centered church established on the island.
Albert and his wife, Kristen, homeschool their four children. In addition to his pastoral ministry, he serves as the Recreation Manager for the local community center, working in Parks and Recreation—the very field that first brought him to Unalaska sixteen years ago.
Theme: In our day, believers are pulled in countless directions. The rise of the internet and the influence of online Christian voices have, in many ways, drawn attention away from the central role of the local church that we see throughout the New Testament. As a bivocational pastor serving a small church in a small community in Alaska, Albert carries a deep burden to see believers—and men in particular—recover a robust understanding of the local church’s essential place in their own lives, in their families, and in God’s redemptive plan to spread His glory across the earth “as the waters cover the sea.”
Through these teaching sessions, we will explore the biblical role and importance of the local church and consider practical ways we, as men, can commit ourselves to seeing biblically healthy, thriving churches established and strengthened in our communities for God’s glory.
Scripture shows that men bear a particular responsibility to lead, build up, and take accountable ownership of the health of their local church. God calls us to steward this responsibility in service to the body of Christ—for the good of His people, the flourishing of our households, and the spread of His gospel to the ends of the earth.
For Christian men living in the midst of a noisy and distracted world, this is the task before us: to fix our eyes on Christ and give ourselves wholeheartedly to the life and health of His church.
